Dental hygiene tips for healthy teeth & gums

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a thing now; we all want to look like the photos we see of celebrities who flash their bright smiles at photographers. But as you get older your teeth naturally darken a shade every decade, this is because the interior of our teeth, the interior of the tooth, the part with pigment,  continues to grow as we age and our enamel thins.  It would be great if we could just blame time for the coloring of our teeth, but many of us have bad habits that add to the coloration of our pearly whites. We know that drinking coffee and tea and smoking leads to yellowing of our teeth, but so can soy sauce, curry, red wine, soda, and berries. This list contains things that most of us are not willing to do without so we have to decide what steps to take to keep our teeth healthy looking and white. There are a few things we can do, like using straws and swishing with water after eating that can help, but everyone is going to have some staining.

Having your teeth whitened by your dentist is a great way to go to restore your youthful looking teeth. Your dentist can use a light or a heat source to speed up the process and if you have sensitive teeth or troublesome gums, it’s best to have your dentist perform the whitening. Your dentist knows how to protect sensitive parts from the tooth whitening procedure and has strong formulas to use on your teeth for maximum whitening.
